Calling all aspiring actors between the ages of five-years-old and 15! The Toole County Performing Arts & Entertainment group is excited to once again offer KidsMAT (Montana Actors Theater) Summer Theater Camp. The camp will take place July 20-23, beginning each morning at 9 a.m. and wrapping up at 3 p.m. This year the camp will take place on the Shelby High School lawn and campers will be encouraged to take advantage of the free lunch program or can bring a sack lunch if they prefer.
“MAT out of Havre is putting on the camp,” said Toole County Performing Arts & Entertainment member Crissy Bauman. “They hire the student interns and provide snacks, a t-shirt and a water bottle for each enrolled camper. We are encouraging the campers to participate in the free school lunch program, although they are welcome to bring a sack lunch with them if they prefer.”
Parents can register kids the first morning of camp or ahead of time online at https://mtactors.com/kidsmatreg. Registering online is recommended as it will ensure campers get the right size of t-shirt and the camp is limited to 25 campers. Camp will be held outdoors and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
Those participating in the camp will perform the “Wizard of OZ” and the 20-minute performance is open for anyone to attend, for free, on Thursday evening, July 23. The exact time will be announced the week of the camp.
The cost to attend camp is $50, with each additional sibling in the same family costing $35. Scholarships are available, thanks to generous donations from Century Gaming and Shelby Elks Lodge 1696.
“A big thank you to Century Gaming and the Shelby Elks Lodge 1696 for their generous donations, which makes it possible to bring this camp to Shelby,” said Bauman. “Toole County Performing Arts & Entertainment also held some fundraisers to help offset the cost as well. Thanks to all of these groups we are able to offer a few scholarships for any kids that would like to attend but can’t afford to.”
If you are interested in a scholarship please email Bauman at CrissyBauman@yahoo.com or call Angela, with MAT, at (406) 390-2729.
No prior acting experience is necessary to attend camp and MAT provides all the costumes. Anyone interested is encouraged to sign-up.
The camp is strictly limited to 25 participants and will be using the Mayo Clinic self-assessment tool to determine if participants should be excluded based on potential COVID-19 exposure.
