Charles E. Reese, Jr. aka “Chazz” was born in Dallas, TX to Dr. Charles E. Reese, Sr. and Annie Eloise Reese, and is the oldest of three children. At the age of six, his family relocated to Cleveland, OH where his father pastored for several years. While growing up, Chazz began to experience his various gifts from God at an early age. He taught himself to play the piano, mastered the Alto saxophone, began writing songs and soon discovered his gift of singing. Soon after, Chazz found himself singing in talent shows and performing in citywide concerts.
As a professional artist, Chazz had his first professional recording in 1996 as founding member of the group Renaizzance, in collaboration with former NBA star, Tyrone Hill’s label All Net Records. The cover of Midnight Star’s “Slow Jam” played in 51 markets and reached No. 94 with a bullet on the Billboard R&B charts and heavy radio and music video exposure. The group traveled around the country performing with artists such Monica, Brian McKnight, India Arie, Faith, El DeBarge and many others.
A few years later, Chazz decided to settle down with his family and decided to relocate to Atlanta with hopes of rekindling the dream of sharing his music to the world. Little did he know that God had other plans for him. Already serving as a Praise and Worship leader at his home church, Chazz humbly accepted God’s call to preach in 2007. Currently serving as College Ministry Pastor, Chazz realized that God was leading him to go beyond Preacher and Praise and Worship leader at his church, to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world through his music. Chazz is excited about the debut of his Album “Faith”, which has been released worldwide in January 2013. Chazz is the proud husband of Monica Reese, and together they have two beautiful children; Jessica Reese and Charles E. S. Reese, III. Chazz believes that he has been given a divine assignment to help spread the gospel throughout the world, using the unique gifts that God has blessed him with. As a preacher, teacher and psalmist, Chazz is excited about answering his calling and divine purpose in the building of God’s kingdom.
The eagerly anticipated CD “Faith”, was released in January 2013. Chazz composed and co-produced all of the tracks on this debut project which showcases his vocal finesse. Having recently wowed audiences with performances at the Praise 102.5 FM Gospel Jazz Fest and at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta Georgia, Chazz is ready to share his gift to the world.
Hannah Spivey: Hello. How are you?
Chazz Reese: I am great, and you?
Hannah Spivey: So, tell our readers a little about yourself and what you do?
Chazz Reese: My name is Chazz Reese, and I am a Christian Soul artist here in Atlanta, GA. I am also a College Pastor. My debut single is Faith and I am excited about sharing it to the world!
Hannah Spivey: Why did you decide to get into your occupation?
Chazz Reese: I love to use music as a platform to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am doing what I do to encourage the believer and persuade the non believer with the ministry of music.
Hannah Spivey: How long have you been doing what you’re currently doing?
Chazz Reese: I have been doing music all of my life. I was originally in an R&B group called Renaizzance and was blessed to chart. I have since been called to preach and have been choir director, Praise Team Leader and now a recording artist with a complete project.
Hannah Spivey: What makes you stand out from all the other artists?
Chazz Reese: Of course there are comparisons because of my strong influences over the years. However, my music stands out because it blends gospel, jazz, neo soul, hiphop and classic soul all in one basket. My music is for the church people or someone who does not attend church. There is something for everybody!
Hannah Spivey: Who did you have the opportunity to work in the industry?
Chazz Reese: I’ve worked with Anne Nesby, Mel Baldwin, Kelvin Wooten and other great musicians.
Hannah Spivey: What are you currently working on?
Chazz Reese: I am currently working on releasing my completed album under my own label and will be touring both nationally and internationally this summer!
Hannah Spivey: Who would you like to work with?
Chazz Reese: I would love to work with Chrisette Michelle, Rascal Flats, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp and Jazmine Sullivan.
