International Tour/Club DJ and CEO of Plug Djs (I Love My Plug) has joined “Attica Lundy PRsents On The Rise Radio” as the newest Team Risen mentor. This means so much to me because it seems like the filling in of a missing puzzle piece. Since taking over as the head of On The Rise Magazine, our ceo (my husband Rafael “Jesus” Cooper) has always wanted to include the rest of his closest friends who began pursuing the dream of the entertainment and promotions industry. When DJ KuttThroat, someone whom Rafael considers a brother and who grew up with him in Atlanta’s Zone 4/Campbellton Rd area, was interviewed as a special guest DJ on the show, we knew we had to extend the offer to “The Plug” to become a regular Co-Star on the show so that they could pick back up where they left off, but this time with On The Rise in the mix. DJ KuttThroat is welcomed to the On The Rise Magazine and the internet blog talk radio station On The Rise Radio serving “Record Breaker Wednesdays” #BossRound nights. The Boss Round is a segment starring DJ KuttThroat and guests will discuss featured tracks that have been entered into the Boss Round. DJ KuttThroat will also request music from selected artists.
DJ KuttThroat Bio:
A native of Southwest Atlanta, 25- years-old DJ Kutt Throat aka “The Plug” has become one of the premier hip hop DJs in the country with recognition on a global scale. He’s DJ’d around the world including most of the continental US, Germany, the Netherlands, St. Thomas, Canada and Japan. However, his journey into the music industry was humble, beginning during his teen years when in 2004 he started working at Peppermint Music in Atlanta. Under the guidance of the store’s DJ, Kutt fell in love with the art of “spinning records” and worked to perfect his craft. DJing anywhere and everywhere he could, he quickly became a must have host at all local parties and events.
“I was always the kid people called to bring the CDs to the house party because everyone knew I worked at a music store and had all the music,” DJ Kutt Throat said. “One day I thought to myself, “Why not take this a step further?”
And that’s exactly what he did going on to work with Asylum, Interscope, Atlantic, Def Jam & So So Def Records on various projects and events. Kutt was more than just the face of the party as its host, but more often than not behind the scenes as well, consulting with entertainment companies and promotional vehicles on how to maximize their brand’s exposure and improve marketing to local and national demographics.
“It sounds crazy but I just set goals and then I’d accomplish them. For example when I was 17 I decided I was going to DJ for Young Jeezy, I didn’t know Young Jeezy, had never met him, but I got it in my head that I was going to do it, then boom, two years later I was touring with Young Jeezy.”
Now he’s known best as the official tour DJ of popular rapper Mykko Montana, but Kutt has also collaborated with Roscoe Dash, Future, Rich Kidz, Shawty Lo, J-Money and Slick Pulla to name a few. Not limited to music industry celebrities, he’s also been invited to spin at political events for politicians such as Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. However, for the young DJ the highlight of his DJing career so far has been performing alongside Jay-Z on the Atlanta stop of his 2006 Hangar tour.
Kutt Throat is also a prolific mixtape DJ with over a million units in the streets and millions more of digital downloads on the biggest hip hop sites globally. With a strong work ethic and intuitive ability to read crowds and trends DJ Kutt Throat introduced the mixtape series, Fake i.d. to the world in 2008. Recognizing the 12-18 year old urban youth markets power and influence on the purse strings of the music industry the series has become a coveted promotional opportunity for any artist seeking to strengthen their fan base in the street. Today it is seen as one of the premier sources in the south for scouting new talent.
Recognized by industry leaders as well as his peers, after just two years in the game he was named in the “Top 100 DJs to serve music to in Atlanta” by Hot Block Magazine, establishing himself firmly at the forefront of young entrepreneurs in the industry to watch. The accolades continued with a nomination for Legion of Doom’s “best New DJ” and Salute the DJs award for “Most Overlooked DJ” in 2009 & 2010.
“I never modeled myself after anyone else, but the first DJs I ever paid attention to were DJ Jelly & DJ Montay,” Kutt said.
Business-minded and people savvy “The Plug” serves as the C.E.O. of the Plug DJs, a southeast DJ coalition based out of Atlanta and also has the position as co-founder of the hip-hop powerhouse PLUG Enterprises. Plug Enterprises specializes in artist development, booking, consulting, marketing and promotions.
“ILMP stands for I LOVE MY PLUG, that is a brand/company I started back home with my two older brothers. It’s funny how it all came together when I think about it. All three of us were working in promotions and media doing our own thing separately. Then one day we just thought…HEY! We all have great connections and a good following for what we do individually. Why don’t we come together and take over this music industry? So that’s what we took off to do. That’s where the whole PLUG brand came from.”
Most recently Kutt’s networking skills and entrepreneurial prowess have moved globally with the Tokyo branch office “I Love My Plug Japan” being established in January 2012. The affiliate handles Japan-wide distribution and promotion as well as booking in Asia. Currently it boast 3 of the top 10 strongest youth market targeted street team groups that move product and create buzz virally as well as through old-fashioned pounding of the pavement.
“I recognized a void needed to be filled between American artists and their Japanese following. Besides Japan has beautiful and “kutt throat” women, that’s why we had to have a Japan office. Africa is next.”
DJ Kutt Throat has been the spark plug of many artist careers, brands, projects, concerts, shows, clubs, and parties with tours worldwide. Humbled, inspired, and energized to keep good music, artists and projects available to followers of the movement worldwide, his fan base and brand will only continue to grow.
