Love Balungi was born in 1990 in Boston, MA, USA. Her parents were natives of Uganda, and in 1978 moved to America on asylum from Idi Amin. She was raised in both Uganda and America and visited every year. Her father died when she was very young, but both of her parents were very proud of her. They were proud of her being an American and made sure that she embraced both cultures. She started her company in 2019 in her dining room. Balungi means beautiful or well in Luganda. She was looking for purpose. She had just lost her mother 3 months prior and wanted to do something that would make her proud. Since she was a little girl, she was always into beauty. She would watch her mother in the mirror put on her lip glosses, or lipstick and be in awe. She loved the smell of the cocoa butter or shea butter that she would rub onto their hands. Her aunt made natural hair products and became her mentor inspiring her to make her own products, too. In essence, Love Balungi is an ode to the woman that continuously inspires her. Love Balungi, which is also her namesake, is for everyone. She says “We all deserve to Love Beautifully and feel beautiful”. The beauty company she created had a mission to spread love and beauty to the world.
Running a cosmetics/beauty company is no easy feat. However, Love puts love into her products and it is evident when you use one of her products. Her company sells homemade lip gloss, body butter, and body scrubs. The products are organic. No harsh chemicals and natural ingredients. Clear, Red, Pink, Purple, and Brown. Her products can also be made to order. The body scrub is brown sugar and pink lemonade and blue raspberry. The scrubs can be 6 months at room temperature in dark areas and dry areas. She is coming out with lotion and aromatherapy candles, as well. Her dream is to have her products sold internationally at select stores and to even have brick-and-mortar locations. She currently seeks investors for supplies and inventory when big sales come and hopes to raise capital. She hopes to build a team to help the company’s vision to come to fruition worldwide.
