On Sunday, the executive committee of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) was set to discuss the decreasing actors’ remuneration, resumption of film shootings and allegations of sidelining up-and-coming actors among other issues. The only problem was that they chose a venue that was in a containment zone.
As soon as the meeting began in a hotel in Chakkaraparambu, Kochi, members of a political party gathered shouting slogans, prompting executive members such as Ganesh Kumar, Edavela Babu and Tiny Tom, who were present, to suspend the meeting. Ganesh tells us, “We were set to discuss various issues including the producers association’s demand to cut the actors’ remuneration by 50%. We couldn’t arrive at a decision as the meeting was stalled midway.”
Babu, meanwhile, told the media outside the hotel, “We were told that the hotel was on the highway and hence outside the containment zone. That’s why we held it here. Those who couldn’t attend were set to participate virtually through video conference. We might convene at a later date to address the issues but it’s not urgent. Several movies have already begun.”
