Courtney Timmons is a Twenty-Two year old mother of two who is a security guard from Harris Neck, Georgia USA. She is also a singer who was found by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on the streets and was brought directly without even registering to perform before the judges.
After being personally walked in by Ryan, Courtney revealed that she began singing when she was 3 years old. Between the age of 12 or 23, she realized that she truly had a gift of singing. She grew up watching “American Idol” and idolized former show contestant Jennifer Hudson.
She said; “My favorite was actually Jennifer Hudson because she came out of the show amazing. Even though she didn’t win, she still made a big name for herself and doing great things to this day.”
Timmons said that she was very excited when she heard that the auditions were being held in Savannah, but was unaware judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie would be there.
“When I saw them walking into their hotel, I was like somebody’s going to hear me today. I was very excited,” she said. She was however told that people at the audition had already sung in front of producers two months prior. Timmons was also told by some that she “might as well go home” and her chances of being seen were slim to none.
Timmons was, however, determined and stayed out there for seven hours. That was when host Ryan Seacrest appeared and asked her what she was singing and if she had auditioned previously like everyone else. She responded no and Seacrest asked her how bad she wanted it and she responded saying; ” More than anything I’ve wanted in this entire world.”
Ryan told her that he was going to try and get her seen by the judges and he finally did and after the audition, she had Ryan Seacrest tearing up because of how proud he was of her.
When host Ryan Seacrest brought Timmons to the judges, he explained how he found her saying; “I was walking down the street and Courtney was on the corner and she was sitting there and she looked very sad and I said, ‘What’s going on?’” Ryan explained. “She said, ‘Well I showed up to audition, but I think I missed the deadline. But this is my dream and I’ve wanted to do this all my life.’ So, I grabbed her and brought her up the elevator.”
Adding that “No one has heard of her. We don’t have any idea what she sounds like.”
During the audion, Timmons sang Andra Day’s “Rise Up” and the judges were really impressed by her singing. After she finished singing, judge Luke Bryan asked; “Are we being punked?”
Katy Perry went on to note that she had seen Timmons seated outside. “Hold on. Before the show started, I saw her sitting outside on the sidewalk. I thought you were just a fan of the show? You can sing!” She said.
Lionel Richie chimed in saying; “No, you can sang! There’s a difference between singing and sanging. You are a bird, girl.”
Katy Perry agreed saying “You’re one of the best singers we’ve seen today! “You’re probably the best singer we’ve seen today. Courtney Timmons, this is really magical. This is a magical moment. We’re going to send you to Hollywood.”
With a happy face and all teary eyed she said “Something like this; its a miracle. It doesn’t happen for just anybody”. She is the miracle and I look forward to seeing her rise to the top.
