The essence of Cuba is alive in Denver. A Night in Havana was a special event to give a unique experience of The Denver Museum of Nature and Science’s exhibit, “¡Cuba!”. A perfect opportunity to dance the night away in the museum.
The event included a traditional Pan con Lechon sandwich and a specialty cocktail with the Cuban native, Bacardi. Guests were also able to explore the exhibit itself as it brings the island’s atmosphere and history to Denver in an authentic style. Everything was life sized, inducing patrons to daydream of being in the Havana streetscapes. They walked into a cigar roller’s shop as raw leaves hung, and outside of it were tables and chairs where the community would play dominoes or eat street cuisine. There’s was a spot where musicians create the Cuban soundtrack as a one of Cuba’s classic whips, the Chevrolet Bel Air, passes by. Exhibit visitors were even taken underwater, into the lively coral reef as if they were scuba diving to adore all of the deep sea inhabitants. Life size pictures of locals next to their quotes about their love for their homeland added to the tourist’s dream of diving into the Havana life. Cuba’s culture from past to present was in every nook and cranny, including a black and white documentary for guests to site in movie seats to watch.
At the photo booth, attendees were able to choose props to look festive in a Caribbean atmosphere. An upbeat and encouraging museum teammate used people phones to capture the fun moments with friends as they struck many poses. A Night in Havana was complete with captivating salsa shows and a group lesson afterwards from Denver’s Bella Diva Dance. You can’t be in Cuba without a night of dancing. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science was successful in bringing the exhibit to life.
