Road Rage Killed Saint Will Smith

It was very unfortunate when New Orleans Saint player Will Smith was shot down and killed in the after-math of a road rage incident.  Racquel Smith, Will Smith’s wife, was also injured in the shooting and a man that has been been charged and convicted is not behind bars.

Cardell Hayes, who argued that the tragedy occurred was self defense, lost his case when a 12-person jury after a weeklong trial, found him guilty of Manslaughter of Will Smith and attempted Manslaughter of Racquel Smith and he  faces up to 20-40 years in prison.

20-40 years is a long time for a prison sentence, and so many people are outraged at the fact that the decision was made so soon.  In a statement, Racquel’s attorney said, “Because of the upcoming sentencing hearing, in which Racquel will provide a victim impact statement, she does not feel it is appropriate to comment on the facts of the case at this time.” Her attorney continued, “The main focus of Will Smith’s family is to see Mr. Hayes justly sentenced for the murder he so callously committed.” He will be sentenced Friday 12-16-2016.

“Nearly 80 percent of drivers expressed significant anger, aggression or road rage behind the wheel at least once in the past year, according to a new study released today by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.” says AAA in a recent article.  Statistics go on to show:

  • Purposefully tailgating: 51 percent (104 million drivers)
  • Yelling at another driver: 47 percent (95 million drivers)
  • Honking to show annoyance or anger: 45 percent (91 million drivers)
  • Making angry gestures: 33 percent (67 million drivers)
  • Trying to block another vehicle from changing lanes: 24 percent (49 million drivers)
  • Cutting off another vehicle on purpose: 12 percent (24 million drivers)
  • Getting out of the vehicle to confront another driver: 4 percent (7.6 million drivers)
  • Bumping or ramming another vehicle on purpose: 3 percent (5.7 million drivers)

Nearly 2 in 3 drivers believe that aggressive driving is a bigger problem today than three years ago, while nine out of ten believe aggressive drivers are a serious threat to their personal safety. In the case of Will and Raquel Smith vs Cardell Hayes this scenario because all too real. Prayers.
