Whenever I hear the words “Independent Grind”, one person almost instantly comes to mind: King Jamez. King Jamez is the reigning king of the underground heavily concentrated in the south. King Jamez decided to take his music serious at a very early age. Since making that decision, he has dedicated and devoted all of his time into becoming bigger and better. That perseverance has paid off. He is one of the best… For him, it is deeper than just rhyming words. He is rap music.

He is a fine blend of Country, book sense, and street wisdom. He has started off 2016 with a bang by introducing us to his single “Already str8”. This single is coming off of the mixtape collaborative, “Already str8 Vol2.” which is slated to be released Summer 2016. This mixtape differs from all previous mixtapes that Jamez has done because it focuses of good collaborations. Jamez is typically a solo act that is surrounded by family behind the scenes. What makes this project so beautiful is the fact that he is sharing the spotlight in addition to exposing his ever-growing fan base to other independent artists that he personally thinks are dope.

The beauty about King Jamez is his versatility. Give him a topic or a word and he “Got you”. Give him a challenge artistically, and he will create a MASTERPIECE. On this next project, he is giving us a beautiful sound experience. He shows us just a snippet of great sound in His titled track “Already Str8” King Jamez is introducing his audience to mainstream quality music straight from the underground. What he is doing is powerful. He is promoting respect and unity amongst artists. That is something that we see less and less of in today’s music.

In his direct words:

“The goal for this project is to create exposure for independent artist who are making noise on a mainstream level. “Already str8” means: Coming into the game properly prepared for success An example of that is: if a label offers you a shitty deal & your better off with the budget and relationships you’ve built as a solo artist you already str8, if your boss won’t give u a raise and you quit because you make more money as a independent business owner u already str8”

In the titled single “Already Str8”, you instantly feel more laid back. There is something in the rhythmic arrangement that is entrancing. When I heard this track, I thought… The south. Each rapper delivered superbly. They rode the beat perfectly, careful not to overpower or be overshadowed by the music. I also appreciate the fact that the song was not overly auto-tuned. You could actually hear and feel the diversity. Nobody sounded like Future or Fetty Wop. That is becoming a rare trait in today’s music game. I got individuality. Another thing that I liked is that everyone respected each others space and talent on the track. Hearing the titled track has definitely made me anticipate hearing “Already Str8 Vol.2” Mixtape.
