Interview With International Pop Star Jahna Sebastian Post Legends On The Map

It’s been a year since @AtticaLundy PResents On The Rise Magazine has spoken to the extraordinaire Jahna Sabastian, when we did an interview with her via Blog Talk Radio’s @AtticaLundy presents On The Rise Radio [ https://ontherisemagazine.com/who-is-jahna-sebastian/ ].  After releasing her critically acclaimed album THE ALCHEMIST, London Based singer/songwriter/producer and engineer Jahna Sebastian has released her new album LEGENDS ON THE MAP.  The album features her smash hits “LOOKING FOR LOVE” and “LIFE”.  Legends On The Map is written, recorded, produced, performed, and mixed entirely by Ms. Sebastian at her studio Multivizion Music.  It’s a one woman project like her first album.  Ms. Sebastian stated when talking about the new album, “It continues the story as I unfold my vision for the world to bring people together through music.  It’s a conceptual album and every song is like a point in the map in a tale.  It means that it’s time for people to co create our history together and realize the potential and the legends are happening in real life as we speak”.

@AtticaLundy: Hello Jahna, I’m so happy to interview you again. How have you been?</div<

Jahna Sabastian: I’m very happy to do the interview again with you too. I’m great, I have been working hard on new music, collaborations in fashion and with brands in various areas, building Alchemist TV and much more. I released two albums within eight months. It was a next level challenge, but it’s worth it. I’ve been continuously building my movement to enlighten people all around the world through my knowledge.

@AtticaLundy: Jahna, you are an artist in more ways than one.  The last time we spoke, you mentioned that your stage presence as a performer has been present since your childhood.  Having come from Russia in a time when your appearance was not necessarily embraced, how difficult was it to get into the business,or was that prior to the Neo-Nazi movement when things were so violent?

Jahna Sabastian: Yes many things happened before that. Russia was changing rapidly, I was born in USSR and then Soviet Union collapsed, it became modern Russia. I started doing music very early and as I attended kindergarten of Bolshoy Theatre from the age of three as a child, which is one of the few oldest opera and ballet theatres in the world. We had an intense performance program with classical music foundation. Our kindergarten held balls at places like Museum of Music in Russia. based on XVIII, XIX centuries culture, where we would perform, sing, recite poems and play instruments. It was a very liberating atmosphere and children at the kindergarten came from artistic and musical families, they were well traveled and raised as open-minded creative people. I must admit that was a great experience which influenced everything else I am doing in music. At the age of seven I learned to read music and play domra in the orchestra named after Loktev. We performed at places like Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. This was the point when I was listening to music with a producer’s mindset already, as I saw how different instruments came together as one. Within the musical environment people were great and I had amazing teachers. Neo-Nazi movement was something that was quite shocking and at a certain point it got to a stage where I had to travel everywhere in a car to avoid harassment. However, any form of racism is outdated and I strongly believe that in the future society around the word will change for the better.

@AtticaLundy: Where were your parents at the time of your escape from Russia and did they escape, as well?

Jahna Sabastian: My parents have separated by then and my mother stayed in Russia, while my dad went back home.

@AtticaLundy: While I’m on the topic of childhood, I would like to discuss parenting.  But first, how is your precious daughter doing?

Jahna Sabastian: She is growing up as an incredibly creative and knowledgeable child, I am very proud of her. She is interested in many subjects and I taught her the importance of not limiting herself, while working hard and mastering every skill. She is into music, architecture, design, technology, history, dance, art and more.

@AtticaLundy: Being a parent isn’t easy at all.  How do you manage time to create these beautiful aspects of your career and also manage time for your daughter’s interests, as well?

Jahna Sabastian: I raise her and she lives with me all the time in London. We found a balance where we spend a lot of time together, she is always with me, at radio stations, photo shoots, music video shoots, when I’m working in the studio, she is right next to me on another laptop editing her own videos. She is learning how to work from those experiences. She also gets to learn about the process while watching me. Whenever I have a time off work, we usually do something that’s interesting, fun, and often educational for both of us. We go to museums, art galleries, kids places, festivals and I always find interesting spots around London. Whenever possible, she comes to my live shows. She literally grew up in my music studio, I cook healthy food for both of us, and we have a super strong bond. She knows what respect means towards a parent and at the same time we are best friends. She is a lot like me when I was child.

@AtticaLundy: What advice would you give mothers who are aspiring to have a career in music, beauty, and/or fashion?

Jahna Sabastian: It’s very important to believe in yourself, your dreams, and know who you are. For a mother priorities are straightforward, time is precious. Scheduling work and making arrangements while looking after your child requires a lot of discipline and time management is key, especially in this industry. Also always remember to have a moment of reflection as it can be very hectic, taking some time to look closely at your path, setting long term and short term goals is important at each stage. Dedicate some time for relaxation as well and celebrate every achievement every day, even the small ones, give yourself a treat. Even if it gets stressful at times, there is also another way to look at it, as an adventure that you overcome and that makes you stronger each time. Raising a child while building a career in this industry is a journey that you can make unique and interesting for both yourself and your child.

@AtticaLundy: Does your daughter like this new album and if so, what’s her favorite song on it? If not, why?

Jahna Sabastian: Yes, Nicole loves my new album and she witnessed the process of it’s creation. She really enjoys it and she loves seeing how a song comes together from it’s conception to release. Her favorite song is ‘Life’.

@AtticaLundy: What song off of “Legends On The Map” is your absolute favorite?

Jahna Sabastian:  I would say ‘Life’ is also my favorite as it describes my attitude to my Purpose.

@AtticaLundy: On our last interview, you told us about a challenge you were doing.  How did your challenge of writing one song each day go?

Jahna Sabastian: It’s going great, I’ve created so much and it’s very much on time with my personal journey through life. My music is connected to my everyday life and this challenge projects that. I am the same person on stage and in everyday life.

@AtticaLundy: I’m very proud of you.  Just a year ago we were discussing your then upcoming album, The Alchemist, which was the first album of many to begin to …unite others. Did that album do what you wanted it to do?

Jahna Sabastian: Thank you. Yes, ‘The Alchemist’ is the foundation for stories to come, many of them are already unfolding where art and real life are intertwined. At the time as I was making ‘The Alchemist’, I wanted to make a statement about the foundation of who I am, my goals, how I see and approach life and creativity. It is about unifying elements while listening to the beat of the Universe and bringing all of that together. I was regaining my sense of self and my connection to the world around me. It represents the first chapter in the Musical Book I am creating to be the soundtrack to our times.

@AtticaLundy: You also started The Alchemist TV.  Has it been successful?
Jahna Sabastian: Alchemist TV is a platform where I’m showing creatives from all around the world, which allows them to tell their own story in a personal, candid and often spontaneous way. It’s goal is to help change culture and let the power of the human mind be seen through the creative fields worldwide. I have had many amazing and very meaningful conversations with creatives, episodes about the work that is not often seen in the mainstream, but that deserves in my opinion more light to shine. From that they are often also discovered by others. I am doing it all completely organically as I go and with the development of current technology and social media. This is what true connection through technology is about and I want this progress to be on a human level first, reaching out to another within a split second is easy, but what is said and done can help people put those modern day legends on the map.

@AtticaLundy: Your latest album, Legends On The Map, which talks about the past, the present, and the future here on earth and throughout the universe is a beautiful project to me. Was this the second album to follow your intentions from The Alchemist?
Jahna Sabastian: Thank you. Yes, absolutely, ‘Legends On The Map’ is the second chapter after the ‘The Alchemist’. I worked on it pretty fast most of the work was done within three months. I was following my vision and the story to unfold through the songs which symbolize different points on the map as The Alchemist is going on the journey. It’s an improvisation if many themes through the past, the present and the future of history.
@AtticaLundy: In my part of the world, the tone for a lot of this album would be considered “Woke”.  What was the inspiration for this album?
Jahna Sabastian: We are on the crossroads of history, the most crucial time in thousands of years and I am reflecting that through my music as I want to send out a message of hope and truth to the world. Humanity will have to make very important choices in the coming times, that will determine the future. I am describing aspects and giving the clues through my lyrics and sound, with this album ‘Legends On The Map’, it’s different places as they may be familiar with history repeating itself through eras in time. Many lessons are told through ancient myths and legends, now it is the time to take charge and create the new legends of this era to make the legends alive. I am showing the connection between different points in the world, while many questions are being raised in regards to uniting people from various countries and cultural backgrounds. There is a common thread, and that is the fact of being human. As The Alchemist is setting on a journey, the discovery happens through traveling physically and spiritually. With this album I’m showing and outlining my vision through a tale about the travels and knowledge on the way.
@AtticaLundy: What are your immediate thoughts about the universe as it relates to people on the Earth?
Jahna Sabastian:  There is a universal knowledge for all to understand human nature, purpose of life on Earth, relationship with the Universe and other dimensions. This knowledge is the most ancient, it will be liberating for all to return and I am here to share it with everyone. Life on Earth for a human soul is a time of learning lessons, it’s like a school and a test, until it’s passed and the soul can go to the next level. There are many levels of development beyond this world and this is what people will need to understand to see beyond the material world. It is also very important to raise the energy of people on Earth and that will effect the Earth itself and other planets. People’s thoughts, actions and every single soul’s journey effects many things around and even the course of history. This is why I am saying, every soul’s story has its weight, it’s beyond material possessions and social status. There is a big picture of humanity all together making a choice for the course of history and a detailed view of every human making the choice within their own life. The spiritual realm is linked to the material world, the macrocosm of the Universe and the microcosm of every human are connected.
@AtticaLundy: Do you feel that you are ahead of your time or are you in the “now”?
Jahna Sabastian: I am here on time as it was predicted long time ago. Time itself is also a relative concept as I am here to help change things and therefore the lightning of the idea starts within, to then get the ball rolling and how long it takes can vary depending on many factors. In this sense I operate outside of constrains of time, rather I work based on my intuition, what is needed now and if barriers need to be broken or trends need to be avoided or replaced, that takes place anyway. I have a song ‘Times Square’ I sang on ‘Times Square’ which is about that.
@AtticaLundy: When we last spoke, you explained about how you were in a place of freedom.  Having come from a challenging immigration situation, at what point in your life (and career) did life start to truly get better for you?
Jhana Sabastian: In the past year as I regained understanding of myself through working on my albums. I knew what I came on this planet to do, but the challenging situations have postponed and interfered with the course of action. Although over time it tested my strength, so that made me remind myself that I am tough, I go all the way in.
@AtticaLundy: When you say “Life is about unifying us all and showing how by appreciating life, people can contribute to being more positive and therefore making better choices on their own journey”.  Do you think there will be a time in our life or our children’s life when this will be true for all?
Jahna Sabastian: Absolutely, this change will be happening in the coming decades. Some of the choices will be in regards to AlI, therefore I am showing what really the power of a human mind can do and this Earth is a place for humans, not robots. Everything is going to come into the right motion, where it will be a powerful beautiful world of human spiritual development and technology that is helping people, but not replacing them. It will be a place, where main values are not based on money, but on who you are. Many ideas, concepts, view points have been fractured around the world, often being the cause of wars. The pieces of knowledge have to be picked up and put together. It’s like a reflection of the story of Osiris. Then comes the rebirth in human minds.
@AtticaLundy: The cover art on your album is beautiful, as all of your projects are.  Can you explain it the cover art for “Legends On The Map”?
Jahna Sabastian: Thank you. I create concepts like this. It represents the unifying power in the world coming from the East to the West on the crossroads of history. It’s drawn based on a picture of me I took back in 2016. I am wearing a white dress which symbolizes in this particular case purifying the Knowledge. The Earth is seen in space which shows that’s its connected with everything in the Universe. The eight point star, also shown as a compass is an ancient symbol and it represents here the basis and foundation for the world. I am the woman from the East, I live in the West and sending out a musical message that surrounds the Earth. It reflects one of the lines in the lyrics in my song ‘Looking For Love’, ‘the world will be singing this song’. I am standing and my head is up in the sky as it represents true nature of me, the Translator between the Earth and the Spiritual Realm.
@AtticaLundy: How are you doing on numbers in terms of the market in the USA? In the UK?
Jahna Sabastian: I am mostly looking for longevity and my music to be here for many generations to come, in this case numbers can accumulate infinitely, however for me, what really matters is the impact it has on every individual person. I am looking out for many thousands years into the future.
@AtticaLundy: How is the public responding the messages you are sending them through your music?
Jahna Sabastian: Many people are opening their eyes, which is great to see. They start asking questions about many things, they want to know more. It effects many of those who comes across my work, from different backgrounds. I am connecting with people from all walks of life. It can be very strong or subtle. I find more and more people who were searching for the truth along the way, on this musical journey. The key part is they also find me, because they make a choice to want to look for the truth. A person has the freedom of choice. Those, who would rather live under illusion, make the opposite choice. The illusion can be comforting and can even pay well, but what really matters is what happens to the soul. Many people feel deep down inside them the need to change.
@AtticaLundy: I did a listening session with two other people who are very much into music  One was a producer who said “I like it. I definitely like it. Especially when it’s played on 1080 on YouTube and watching it in HD if possible” and the other person just very much enjoys good music who said “It was a dope album, especially when you take time to listen to it”.  Of course, being one of your biggest fans, it made me happy (and proud) that they enjoyed your album as much as I did. Are those some of the responses that you expected not only from people in the industry but also the fans and what are your thoughts on them?
Jahna Sabastian: That’s great to hear, thank you very much for the feedback. Yes, those responses are great and I love the fact that people want to listen to it in HD as I put in work into production, so it’s nice to know people appreciate it. I think if my music moves someone in some type of way, that’s what is important for me as an artist. That’s the purpose of it.
@AtticaLundy: The song “In The Mist” completely shocked me.  Beautifully sung, what was the inspiration behind it?
Jahna Sabastian: One day I was vibing to the beat and I just want to sing out loud, the feeling as if you are in the mist looking for something, therefore you are trying to find your way. It follows the song ‘Looking for Love’. It also reminds of the views of the galaxies, that kind of space of Odyssey mission, as Legends On The Map is universal. I wanted it to have elements of that 70’s excitement about space and the avant garde music that was created at the time. At the same time I wanted it to show it through a more classical performance, almost like opera.
@AtticaLundy: Have any of the songs from this album been involved with any collaborations with fashion?
Jahna Sabastian: Yes this is in the works at the moment as I collaborate with designers. Influencers and bloggers like Diane Jordan often use my music to accompany their special video content and presentations, like my song ‘Party In The Bright Lights’ was featured in her video for Where Wolf clothing. I am also constantly collaborating with brands in fashion, food, beauty industries. I edit my content myself also and create many different fun pieces which include my music.
@AtticaLundy: Speaking of Fashion, are you working on any fashion projects at the moment and if so, what are they?
Jahna Sabastian: Yes, I have recently collaborated with designers like Turkuaz Bazaar, Johnny Loves Rosie, The Luv Look UK and many more. Sometimes it transcends fashion into art pieces. Like the dress I was wearing during a photo shoot with photographer Rob Wilson Jr, the picture was mixed media photograph featuring different parts of Croydon, the area where I live and it was featured during Croydon Peace Festival at the Peace exhibition at Croydon Town Hall. It shows me holding a dove in my hand as the symbol of peace to inspire everyday people in our borough and communities in other parts of the world to build a more peaceful society. So this is fashion meets art with meaning and I love projects like that.
@AtticaLundy: Are there any plans for you coming to and performing in some way in the United States of America any time soon? If so, when and where?
Jahna Sabastian: Yes I look forward to coming to US to perform in the future. I don’t have a set date yet, as I am working on and fine tuning some projects here in London, but it’s definitely on my list.
