Freebandz OG Double D to be Laid to Rest

og dOn Friday morning, the world of Hip Hop learned the devastating news of the passing of a well-known insider: OG Double D ( real name: James Lewiel). Once again, this goes down as another senseless act of violence in Hip Hop. Double D was brutally murdered in Dekalb County on Thursday, April 11, 2013. He was headed Westbound on I-20 towards the city during the height of afternoon rush hour traffic. Several eye witnesses say that an unknown white SUV pulled up beside the Mercedes Maybach that he was driving and let several rounds loose. It was an assassination scene painted straight out of a movie. No one knows exactly why this happened but one thing that people are agreeing upon is that this surely was not an “accident”. He was rushed to Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Atlanta’s Hip Hop community was left hurting when the news of his passing was confirmed. I don’t know what’s worse: the fact that we have yet lost another black artist/entrepreneur to senseless violence or watching the news reports and seeing the haunting image of the Mercedes Maybach parked on the side of I-20 riddled with bullet holes. This story is far from over, it is still developing. Double D played critical roles in the careers of Rick Ross, Rocko, and Future. The Miami native was more than just a rapper, he was a mogul and highly respected.

Funeral arrangements have been made. His home-going service will be held at: New Life Church in Decatur, Georgia on Saturday, April 20, 2013.
A viewing of the body will be on Friday between the hours of 1pm to 8 pm.
